There is no disable, just 'delete'. I remember my McAfee Internet Security having this problem with rootkit.

WEBJun 13, 2017 · Since then, at least three times, when I've run the Smart Scan, it hangs at 14%, although the blue circle is still going around. This morning it sat at 14% for over two hours. Finally, I canceled it. It is currently running again and has been for almost 90 minutes, again sitting at 14%. The only other thing I have open is this Avast Forum screen.
