WEBJul 25, 2020 · Booting from an NVME drive requires BIOS support. I doubt that it's available on any motherboard with an H61 chipset. You may be able to use a non-NVME M.2 drive that is still PCI-E. I've done that with an old Plextor M.2 drive. (It's just X2, though. Current drives are usually NVME and use 4 lanes.) A SATA SSD would be the practical option.

Or maybe go to Crucial and see if their configurator would want to sell you an NVMe drive, given your model number. I think they date from 2009-2010 ish. The bios is unlikely to have nvme module. You could probably mod it.

And yes, depending on motherboard you can run dual NVMe drives just fine without lane issues. As I said, I run dual NVMe drives and the it costs me is loss of my PCIe x4 slot (bottom PCI slot).

Click on secure boot again but now set it to WIndows UEFI mode. Press F10 to save and exit and windows will finish the install.

I did that for a while with a non-NVME M.2 SSD in an adapter, used as a boot drive in a system with an Intel X79 chipset. Sorry that I can't be more encouraging.

WEBNov 27, 2021 · Except you would create the system partition on the SATA HDD/SSD instead of on the NVMe SSD. You can boot directly from PCIe NVMe SSD on Dell Optiplex 7010 by making a small modification to the BIOS. It works really well and does provide a real world speed increase over SATA SSD in my opinion.
