Olympic gold medallist Rhys McClenaghan says he "couldn't think of a better place" for the Commonwealth Games to take place than Glasgow.

Australia hopes its support for a scaled-back Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2026 will "reset" the multi-sport event's brand and entice more nations into hosting. The Scottish government has backed Glasgow's bid for the Games which were originally to be hosted by Australia's Victoria state before it pulled out citing cost concerns.

The Scottish Government announces its support for a proposal that would give the ailing event a lifeline, as its revealed Commonwealth Games Australia will help foot the bill and chip in around $4.5 million.
