Raytheon, a subsidiary of major American defense contractor RTX, will pay more than $950 million to resolve fraud and bribery charges, the US Justice Department announced Wednesday.

RTX agreed on Wednesday to pay about $950 million to resolve federal charges it defrauded the U.S. Department of Defense into overpaying for defense systems and bribed an official in Qatar to secure business from the Middle East country's air force.

The huge legal settlement by Raytheon related to bribery in Qatar, and to defrauding the Pentagon in regard to the Patriot Missile systems.

According to court documents, company employees offered and paid bribes to secure contracts with the Qatar Emiri Air Force and Qatar Armed Forces.
