In regard to the wildfires in the South Jersey region, the National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for the area, with the greatest danger being Friday afternoon. A red flag warning indicates risks of "explosive fire growth," caused by gusty winds and low humidity.

Residents near wildfires were advised to keep their windows closed as thick smoke spread Sunday throughout South Jersey. Dozens of residents in and around Glassboro and Evesham — the sites of two of the region's biggest fires — awoke Sunday to their carbon monoxide detectors going off.

Wildfires were burning from one end of New Jersey to the other on Friday after one of the driest months on record, leading New York City to issue smoke warnings and forcing farmers to take steps to protect their harvests.
