Beef tallow, lard, and fish oil were found in ghee used for the preparation of Tirupati laddu when the YSR Congress Party was in power in Andhra Pradesh, the ruling Telugu Desam Party said on Thursday.

A controversy broke after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu accused the previous YSRCP government of using substandard ingredient like animal fat to make the sweets offered at the ancient Sri Venkateshwar temple at Tirumala.

Naidu alleged that the previous YSRCP government compromised the Sri Venkateswara temple by using substandard ingredients and animal fat in the Tirupati laddus.

A report by a private laboratory has revealed that the samples of the ghee used in making Tirupati laddoos contained foreign fat, including palm oil, fish oil, beef tallow and lard (obtained by rendering the fatty tissue of a pig).

Andhra Pradesh's ruling Telugu Desam Party has criticized the YSR Congress Party for the use of ghee containing animal fats in the preparation of laddoos offered as prasad at the Tirupati Temple. Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu also asserted that pure ghee was now being used and everything had been sanitised at the Tirupati temple
