“Night Terror” marks the first bit of new music from the classic Dream Theater lineup of vocalist James LaBrie, guitarist John Petrucci, bassist John Myung, keyboardist Jordan Rudess and drummer Mike Portnoy since 2009’s Black Clouds & Silver Linings. Portnoy officially linked back up with his longtime bandmates in 2023.

Fittingly, the first taste of the album is “Night Terror,” a typically acrobatic 10-minute prog-metal odyssey into a fantastical macabre nightscape. The band filmed a video for the song in what looks like a haunted mansion.

Featuring eight new songs, with all but two breaking that seven minute mark, Parasomnia is the band’s 16th studio effort. The whole thing was produced by Petrucci, engineered by James ‘Jimmy T’ Meslin, and mixed by Andy Sneap (yes, the Judas Priest guitarist).
