Jharkhand saw an overall voter turnout of 46.25 per cent till 1 pm during the first phase of voting for 43 seats, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI) data. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and his wife Kalpana Soren have cast their votes at a polling station in Ranchi on Wednesday as the first phase of the two-phased polling in the Assembly began this morning.

The outcome will decide the fate of 683 candidates vying for legislative seats, including 17 general seats, 20 reserved for Scheduled Tribes, and six for Scheduled Castes.
