Despite all odds, Rivers State local government elections took place, yesterday, amid gunshots, bomb explosions and protests in some parts of the state.

Loyalists of Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, who contested elections under the Action Peoples Party (APP) have won all but one of the 23 chairmanship positions.

APP has recently been the political haven of loyalists of the embattled Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara who has not been able to wrest the control of the PDP in the state from his former godfather and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyseom Wike.

The Rivers Etate Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has finally declared the winners of the local government elections amid gunshots and protests in the state.

The Action Peoples Party, APP, secured 22 out of 23 chairmanship positions in the recently concluded local government elections in Rivers State. According to Channels Television, retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli,
