Authorities on Tuesday released the name of the sheriff’s deputy who shot and killed a woman armed with a rifle in Waldport on Sunday. They also publicly identified the woman he shot. Deputy Benjamin Cloud shot 38-year-old Virginia Lee Morris of Waldport around 7:40 p.

A deputy responded to a "disturbance" involving a person firing a rifle from a home on Southeast Rolph Court on Sunday.

The suspect, who hasn’t been publicly identified, died while being taken to a hospital, according to a news release.
