Sep 5, 2011 — For a very rough on the hoof estimate on an average sized deer. Add the lengths of the G2, G3 and G4 (if present) multiply by 2 and add 95. So for instance, a buck comes in and you can see a 7" G2, a 6" G3 and a 3" G4. 7+6+3=16. 16x2=32. 32+95=127. It's very rough but a decent way to get an idea.

Dec 6, 2008 — 19-Mar-17. With 2 small kickers it makes your cut. Made a hell of a mount too. IMO it takes a heck of a 8pt deer (much 'larger' feeling than most) to net 150". From: APauls. 20-Mar-17. This one shows the mass better. Shot early fall 2004, grossed 157 netted 148. Scouting all summer and videotaped him in velvet.

04-Nov-24. Use the old G4 rule of thumb and it’s often very accurate on the 10pts. Any one who’s never heard of it. Take the G4 x10 and add 100. Like i said it’s just a rule of thumb to use trying to field judge one in a hurry. My guess is that bucks in the low 80s.

Dec 12, 2023 — Cameras can be good and bad . So, I went old school the camera needed batteries replacement, I didn’t replace them for a few days and just hunted. Nice 10-point rough score 122. I have one more earn a buck tag that I will hold only for #1 .

Look at my brothers buck above (MPauls) he can correct me if I'm off but I remember that buck having like 10-12" in scorable points that are just stickers around the bases. A quick glance tells you the buck is ginormous, but those stickers that you don't quickly see takes a deer from grossing 180-190 or 170-180 etc.

Oct 5, 2023 — Ray #2 is exactly why scoring and being obsessed with it has lead to many of the problems we have today. People don't put out a corn pile so they can put meat on the table or to brag to their buddy's that they just shot a 10 point buck. They put out corn so they can post pictures on bowsite, archery talk, etc of the 180 they just captured on film.
