Jun 7, 2024 · I think the grass is having trouble getting deep roots due to the depth. Are there any grass cultivars that can do well compared to others with shallow roots? I have had trouble finding any information on the different cultivars typical root depth. E.g. Tall Fescue, fine fescue, creeping red, perrenial ryegrass, kentucky bluegrass, etc.

Apr 20, 2022 · Probably the worst choice for a shady area. Fine fescues are your best bet for shade - these include creeping red, Chewings and hard fescue. Some newer tall fescue cultivatars (TTTF) will grow in shade as well, but I would still use mostly fine fescues.

Just about any tall fescue you buy now will be TTTF with thinner blades than K-31. Some TTTF cultivars have thinner blades than others, but all are aesthetically nicer than K-31.

Feb 4, 2023 · Looking to do a 2025 overseeding on my existing 30 year old 1.5 acre lawn that originally used Kellog's Midwest Supreme KBG mix which had 5 different KBG cultivars in a 60/40 blend with Perennial Rye and Creeping Red Fescue making up the 40 percent. Soil is a sandy loam about 6" deep with sand/gravel/rocks below the loam.
